teen angst poem #1

screams have a lot to say.
they speak of desperation,
the agony of lost hope and endless fear,
and sleepless nights and long days.

anger. hurt. rejection.
all bottled up.

words never spoken.

spoken, heard, but never listened to.

these screams say:
i am a lost bird
in an iron cage.

my only freedom is what others
think i deserve.

my screams are buried deep:
repressed. not shouted. not heard.

tonight I drive out to the cliff’s edge
where my screams echo
endlessly
and only the stars can hear my
agony.
