Another Earthquake Strikes Nepal

Nepal was struck by another earthquake on Tuesday- killing dozens- just weeks after the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that left over 8,000 dead. This earthquake had a 7.3 magnitude and was centered between Kathmandu and Mount Everest.

The earthquake resulted in some landslides as it hit the hardest in the foothills of the Himalayas but also strongly affected the capital.  Lawmakers from Nepal’s Parliament- which was in session at the time- and thousands of people ran out of buildings as the quake hit. At least 10 aftershocks occurred.

At least 37 people were killed and over 1,100 were injured during the earthquake, however that number will probably rise as people isolated towns and villages in the Himalayas were reported as buried under rubble.

In India, which neighbors Nepal, at least 16 were reported dead as rooftops and walls collapsed. China reported there was one death in Tibet.

Residents- many who had just returned home- decided to camp out in tents on sidewalks, parking lots, and fields as they were too frightened to sleep inside their houses.
